| Operation Sunfloweres 1991 In the summer of 1991 Andrew Scott, along with the majority of the Scottish Bedding plant industry, set out to reproduce Van Gogh's"Sunflowers" using flowers as paint and a wheatfield for the canvas. 250,000 bedding plants were grown for this exercise and planted in the Scottish Borders. The results are vi sable in the pictures shown above. The representation covered more than an acre and took six months in planning. The story was broadcast worldwide by sky news,cnn,bbc,and ITN It made front page news worldwide during August and featured in magazines such as Time and hello. It was also used as part of a major add campaign. Live radio interviews were conducted on Radio 2 and Radio Tokyo. This effort gained our industry an award from the American Professional Plant Growers association for outstanding achievement. Andrew gained an honorary membership to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. Andrew expects to repeat this whole exercise in the near future. |
