2011

Its now March and the season has went into full steam ahead, new things for the nursery this year

A street developement in the glasshouse and a new toilet block for the public due in the summer.

G_CONV is still in my mind with the routemaster bus in the wings to. The ecomonic climate is somewhat harsh at the

moment with difficult times ahead. Dobbies grabbing more of the market , or my market and throwing compassion

by the wayside , but who am i to stop the progress of the tesco pound or should i say club point, makes me wonder if the point system is linked with dobbies yet , i think not .

Reason for update tonight is QR codes , i think its the future but with most of my ideas probably a little to far ahead of horticulture . We shall see.

Below is a picture of Anton Turner whom i just found out was killed last year in Africa.

I was lucky enough to spend a week in Antons company in August 2006 whilst on a hunt in deepest Tanzania .

His passion for life and Africa made my short time there so special.

Anton Turner 1971-2009

Anton Turner, who died on 30th October 2009 aged 38, as a result of an elephant charge whilst guiding for a film production team in Tanzania, was a passionate conservationist, hunter and adventurer, dedicated to preserving the last great wildernesses of East Africa.

July 2010

A season that has been trying in many ways. VOSA and our issues with changing our "o" license was frustrating to say the

least. As of today Thomas , Kamil and Waldek are driving back to poland after another season with us . Janka has another few

days before she returns to Hungary. Our summer production will be down due to ever changing times with the people we supply.

The option to close for the rest of the year and reopen is certainly an option to consider.

This year a more solid foundation has been built for our retail. New avenues are being explored as ever with our company and many

new ideas being tried. Physically we are all getting older , the 80/90 hour weeks of May arent as easy or enjoyable as they once were.

On a memerable note we have came through one of the coldest winters on record with snow cover on the ground for many months, ironically

June has been exceptionally dry and warm but as we hit July the rain has returned.

January 2009

Credit crunch year and new ideas are afoot. New websites of pinktomato, charitypots, clydevalleygrown all being worked apon.

New colour ideas in packaging and general closer stock control. Second season as Delamore Cash and Carry which we hope to improve

over last years mistakes . It has been a period of changing times for Andrew and Tricia, a period they both will come thro stronger and more

focussed to the busy year ahead at Reynard Nursery. Ideas in blog, twitter and email and texting all being explored.

Our key focus remains the same , quality plants delivered when you need them.

The Grand National

Ok the Grand National has been mentioned on my news before , I might add that its the one and only event I particuarly like to see

this year is no exception , bets are placed on Hedgehunter Clan Royal and Le Ami , I rush in and settle down to watch as the

horses begin to parade down the paddock , my radio is turned down so my staff cannot disturb me and I feel excitement in my body

, feel the nerves of the jockeys as I used to ride. Anyway after 2 or 3 attempts at starting they final line up for the off and low and

behold we get a power cut , a frantic effort made by me to phone a neighbour to check there power supply alas the whole district is out ,

another dash to our car and try to find a radio station broadcasting it , finally with 2 furlongs to go I find a station and the race is almost over .

Why am i so upset to write about this , I dont know , after a week thats seen us in 5 of Scotlands national newspapers with  Tv  fotoage being

filmed and radio interviews done. A busy and sucessful week for the whole Convair plane idea and yet the missing of a race seems so drastic.

Well i guess there is always next year , I wonder what improbable events that'll bring .

Iain Frame died today  aged 41 , leaving wife Sharon and twins Bethany and Cameron.

Iain was a friend and colleage.

He battled cancer for 3 years but always remained so positive in everything he done.

Always smiling and always trying new ideas.

He faced death in a manner that most of us dont even face life.

Smiling forever in our memories .

A day saddened when the red checkered flag flew .

One unfortunate horse wont run again.

Martell Grand National 2004

A cold grey day was the setting ffor a collegues stag party at Aintree racecourse.

The night before a rather merry night held at a pub in Chester.A seemingly endless train

journey to Aintree set of around 10.30 .... ive never seen a train so full..mind u ..still full of

a weird array of individuals splattered with the odd lady in a hat all set for the races.

Now having never been to such an event my dress code was smart .. other people  who had

been before came in various styles ranging from elvis's for some guys to next to nothing for

for some ladys ..and they did look cold ..

Anyway the big race arrived suddenly it was difficult to get near a bookies. Two minutes to the off

i place a bet on some named picked from a hat..id forgotten Clan Royalitys name having been

given £10 to place on it by Keith. I positioned my self along with 5000 other people near the 3 from home fence

Clan Royality lead at this point after a fall by the leader Hedgecutter. All eyes were on this horse which didnt get up

Its jockey bravely standing in front of it to prevent the pack of loose horsres and other riders riding over it.

As soon as the field had past a large screen was hurriedly put from the horse. There was a silence in the crowd as people

watched the screen being held by 20 or so stewards in the wind. Peoples eyes were filling with tears as the assumption

was made . the winner didnt matterto our part of the crowd.....luckily Clan Royality was second .. my unplaced bet

My mind wasnt on the winner anyway ... eyes were focussed on this green screen ...20 minutes passed

the screen was lowered and the biggest cheer from the crowd arose when the horsed walked away.. tears again flowed

this time with joy. i ddint realise how much emotion a race could carry but for these horses and riders it

has be to the ultimate in horseracing . A day ill never forget for many reasons .

The Grand National

Andrew finally after many years got time to watch the Grand National.

£25 of hard earned money was gambled on a number of horses.

True to form they all lost,

but nonetheless Andrew had a nice hour off.

The day off was topped off with a chinese carry out and a bottle sorry box of wine.

Sisters of Mercy Concert April 2003

On Thursday 25th april a long awaited day had arrived. Ever since i was
in my early 20,s i had wanted to see "the Sisters". Friends were called
and night arranged. Alas my friends few as they are suddenly had other
things to do. My wife being into a more civil type of music declined
the invitation. So undeterred i went on my own, sad really when i think
about it. Nonetheless a good concert anyway with a multitude of
fashion accessories pierced in many parts of the audiences bodies
not to mention elaborate eye makeup, i decided with my age and that
i best not wear any myself. Anyway after a brilliant rendition of "Temple
of love" all the songs sounded the same . Visibility was down to 5 yards
for most of the concert not helped by lead singer Mr eldritch insistence
at smoking during the songs. Anyway i bought the t shirt official £17.99
unofficial 2 for a tenner outside after the concert. to all intensant
purposes seemed to be same t shirts even same people selling them.
The night was topped of by a 2 mile walk to get a taxi and a £35 fair
paid up front as if i didn't look trustworthy enough.
At 37 years of age my youth is disappearing quicker than my friends, they've
already gone .

S&G trip to German Trials

Trish and I went on fact finding mission to Holland and Germany .
Organised by S@G Sengenta Norvartis or whatever there called or
were called. Anyway Easy jet over to skipol and meeting up with 50 odd
growers from around the country. When i say odd i don't mean odd you
know what i mean. Short bus journey to De Leer where their plug
production takes place. Dawned in white suits we were guided around
the premises. I wandered by mistake to see some foreign workers
and was escorted back to the tour. Alas very big and very interesting
and I'm glad to see employs same staff as we do (foreign).
Then we had a short bus journey to germany (3 hours) passed by quickly
looking at the scenery (flat..very flat). Alas we arrived in germany in time for dinner 9pm
and then the bar till 4am . Needless to say the flowers the next day were
lovely. Then back to business AMSTERDAM for a night . The pay for view
tv channel wasn't used . The coffee shop next door was . Any way to summarise
i took some pics of the flowers and if i was to be specific .. the red
ones were nice. And by the way i now know what a whitey is.,
learnt that in the coffee shop.

Reynard Party at the Edinburgh Dungeons

The long awaited party duly arrived on a milld November night. Make-up applied

and dress on or dresses on if i spk for the both of us . Although my size 12

stilletto heals looked a bit daunting for a whole night of dancing. By

5.30 pm no one was here 5.45 pm house full with 40 odd guests all dressed

in goolish gear. Wine was a flowing ... far to fast ... couldnt open the stuff quick

enough. 6.15 pm bus arrived and we were duly off to The Edinburgh Dungeons, the venue

for the party. By 7.30 pm all guests had arrived with contingents from Dobbies Garden

centres and Rouken Glen Glasgow. Over 100 people were in attendance .. all in fancy dress

in the horror theme ... quiet a site for the management of the Dungeons. The night proceeded

well with everyone having a great time ...unfortunately i cant remeber it.
